Goodnotes Introduces AI to Read, Explain, and Edit Handwritten Notes with Ease

Goodnotes, the popular digital notetaking app, has launched new AI-powered features that can read and interpret even the messiest handwriting, making it easier for users to edit, organize, and understand their notes. With over 24 million monthly active users, Goodnotes’ latest update brings handwriting editing tools, a math-specific assistant, and the “Ask Goodnotes” AI, which acts like a personal assistant for your notes.

Handwriting Editing Powered by Smart AI

Goodnotes’ new handwriting tools are built on its proprietary Smart Ink technology, which previously transformed handwritten notes into typed text. Now, the app allows users to edit handwritten text just as they would with typed content. You can align, copy, paste, and rearrange notes, making them more coherent and polished.

The update enhances existing tools like Spellcheck and Word Complete for handwritten text, combining the tactile flexibility of writing with a pen and paper with the editing ease of digital documents.

Ask Goodnotes: Your Personal AI Assistant

The “Ask Goodnotes” feature allows users to interact with their notes in a whole new way. This AI-powered tool can answer questions about your notes, provide summaries, clarify concepts, and even create quizzes for study purposes. If you’re a student or professional, Ask Goodnotes can review hastily written notes days later and explain them in detail, even researching unclear concepts for you.

It works with more than just handwritten notes—Ask Goodnotes also processes typed text, images, and PDFs. The AI gives personalized responses linked to your original notes, ensuring the context is clear and understandable.

Math Assist: Solving Equations with AI

Goodnotes also introduced the Math Assist feature, designed specifically for handwritten math equations. The AI recognizes math problems written by hand, performs calculations, and provides detailed steps for solving problems, from basic arithmetic to advanced calculus. For those who want to solve equations on their own, Math Assist can offer hints instead of complete solutions.

Goodnotes Pricing and Availability

Goodnotes is available on Apple devices, offering up to three notebooks for free. Full access to all features, including the AI-powered tools, costs $10 per year or a one-time fee of $30 for lifetime access.

“We’re constantly inspired by the creativity and knowledge that our users capture in their Goodnotes notebooks,” said Steven Chan, founder and CEO of Goodnotes. “With the new Ask Goodnotes feature, along with handwriting editing and math tools, we aim to give users powerful new ways to interact with their notes and unlock productivity and learning potential.”

Goodnotes continues to evolve, making digital notetaking smarter, more intuitive, and better equipped to help users improve their workflow and learning.
